Okay welcome.
Speaker 2Hello, this is a very special episode of Sister.
Speaker 1Shit. Yes, it is our 20th episode.
Speaker 2We have made it half of a year, woo. So thank you to everyone that has stuck along with us from the beginning, and we'll continue.
Speaker 1We sure will. Yes, also, we are going to start a Patreon at some point.
Speaker 2Yes, we need to get our shit together.
Speaker 1We keep saying we're going to meet about that and then we keep not meeting about that. But we would love to be able to, like I don't know, add some like extra fun stuff and and also support our producer. Yes, Walker, who's so graciously doing this?
Speaker 2helps us with our podcast and we might even have him on the Patreon episodes.
Speaker 1Yeah, that's the plan, that's the plan, so stay tuned for that.
Speaker 2Maybe we'll get our shit together by the new year.
Speaker 1That's a good goal. Yeah, post holiday, stay tuned everyone.
Speaker 2Speaking of holiday.
Speaker 1Speaking of holiday we have a special treat because and actually when we first started talking about doing a podcast, or like throughout talking about doing a podcast, I would often be like, should we just do like a Hallmark movie review podcast? And Caroline said no, that that would be putting us too much in a box, and I think you were right, thanks, but we love our movies and we are going to do like a little review in December of a holiday movie we haven't decided which one yet.
Speaker 2Yeah, we got to pick like the worst one.
Speaker 1We love that one already that you're like.
Speaker 2No, I swear to God, this one's the worst. Send it to us, yes, Because that maybe that's what we do. We like watch a bunch of them and then rank them. That will that will maybe take some years off of our lives.
Speaker 1That would be fun though, I know, and we also, so we, yeah, we definitely want to do a review of one. I've tossed the idea around of Caroline and I doing a special Christmas episode where we find a script narrative wants us to read a script and read a script I think it would be really fun.
Speaker 2It could be, especially the one that you sent me the other day which one where they just like throw some wild.
Speaker 1I'm telling you, I would love to do some acting, okay, okay.
Speaker 2Maybe that'll be a well. I guess that would be too late for Patreon, but we're putting a lot of stuff in the Patreon bucket.
Speaker 1That does not exist yet, but anyway, so we might be acting, don't?
Speaker 2tell people that they're going to stop listening.
Speaker 1But tonight we are going to kick off our episode by reading you a very cherished list of movies that do not exist, that we wish did a few years ago, at least three years ago, maybe more than three years.
Speaker 2I know maybe five. I wonder if I can see the history of the note.
Speaker 1Our Caroline and I and our friend Caroline, we're sitting around talking about Hallmark movies, I guess, and then just decided to like come up with names of what should be Hallmark movies, and this is like if this list ever got deleted I would be so sad.
Speaker 2So now we'll have an audio yes, because we refer back to it all the time. I've had people text me and ask me for it which. I'm like, what are you doing with this? Yeah steal my idea If you come out with one of these movies and don't give me credit for the title, I will come after you. So, um, yeah, should we go back and forth?
Speaker 1Yeah, okay, Okay we need a title for this list, but I know we do.
Speaker 2Every time I look for it, I'm like we rest is still unwritten Okay okay. So first one is also I'm going to say Colin, a lot, no, that I'm talking about the two dots, and then in one of them I'm not. Okay, let's go, I'll try and I'll try and I'll go first. Okay, okay, santa's last ride, colin, a Christmas rapture. Some of these are so dumb.
Speaker 1Next up is Santa the salesman.
Speaker 2Okay, santa surgery. Colin, a tinsel Colin, that's someone I was referring to Santa's favorite helper.
Speaker 1I think these get kind of porny.
Speaker 2They do a seat on Santa's lap.
Speaker 1Jingle my balls.
Speaker 2What would that movie even be about?
Speaker 1It doesn't matter, that's totally a porno. Yeah, okay, most of these are the magical tree, Colin, a very witchy Christmas. Making that gingerbread, colin, a bakery tail.
Speaker 2Five golden swings.
Speaker 1Five golden rings, colin, a very Mormon Christmas.
Speaker 2Swinging with Santa, like why, okay, were we high?
Speaker 1like what is no, we weren't, we weren't. That's what makes it so much better. This probably isn't funny to anyone else?
Speaker 2It's definitely like.
Speaker 1I had to be their situation. Okay, the next one is a stocking, a stocking full of farts.
Speaker 2Like why did we think that that was funny?
Speaker 1I don't know. I still think it's funny.
Speaker 2And clearly we're like both silent laughing. I don't know what this one's trying to say. Last great on Christmas that no idea, something's wrong. So I'll go to the next one A Christmas casket.
Speaker 1Santa's funeral. Colin Hanukkah's revenge.
Speaker 2Mary Chardonnay, colin, a wine. Oh, it's Christmas, a cardboard Christmas, I think that one was about like someone living on the street.
Speaker 1Oh, okay.
Speaker 2The next one is Small Christmas Colin from the eyes of a miniature horse.
Speaker 1A Christmas cruise Officer, Claus Um or Cop Claus, Cop, Cat Colin no no Cat Cop. Oh Cat Cop Colin, the Christmas Cat comma and Cop.
Speaker 2Then why did we get so into cats? The next one, cat Claus, colin Santa's Cat.
Speaker 1Murder, no Mystery, murder, sex and Santa, what the heck.
Speaker 2What is that? That cannot be. And then we came up with a. Something got messed up in our notes. Somebody edited this. That wasn't supposed to.
Speaker 1Who was it? It was one of y'all listening to our podcast, because only our friends listened to this podcast.
Speaker 2The very last one. Thank you for sticking through that list. That was kind of cringy.
Speaker 1The last one is Krampus vs Claus.
Speaker 2That was a new addition, krampus, yeah, because Jay went through this phase where, like for three years, in a row.
Speaker 1He made us watch Krampus. Yeah, it's so bad.
Speaker 2And it has what's that we need to have.
Speaker 1Shanika, come back and review Krampus.
Speaker 2Oh my gosh. Yes, because it is so weird. But it has good people in it. Why is?
Speaker 1Adam Scott in it.
Speaker 2I don't know. I've never seen Adam Scott. Well, okay, correct me if I'm wrong. I'm like. The only other thing I've seen him in other than Parks and Rec is Krampus and then some other movie where he has a micro penis and he's in Severance. That's like a big good show right now.
Speaker 1I stopped watching it, though, because it's like only fluorescent lighting, and it really made me sad.
Speaker 2Yeah, bad for the soul.
Speaker 1Are you, and not even in like a ooh, I have to have good lighting way, but like when you watch TV, if, Like, I had to stop watching Ozark because it's so dark, Like I couldn't but like dark as in lighting, yeah the lighting, like the whole. The way it's edited is like all very dark.
Speaker 2I don't love a dark show.
Speaker 1And then, like in Severance, it's all like, very like office lighting, like I couldn't.
Speaker 2And then when it's not office lighting.
Speaker 1It's very dark.
Speaker 2I'm trying to think of another show. I haven't seen either of those.
Speaker 1I don't know. I think it's like romcoms in the Disney Channel that just conditioned my like entertaining entertainment brain for like only wanting the highest exposure.
Speaker 2Oh yeah.
Speaker 1Anyway.
Speaker 2Anyway, Hallmark movies.
Speaker 1What's your favorite one ever? Christmas and Christmas I was gonna say?
Speaker 2the thing is, is that there's? I love Hallmark Christmas movies, but I also love like this is totally different, but like a lifetime thriller.
Speaker 1Oh, I've never seen a lifetime thriller.
Speaker 2Oh my gosh Mayor.
Speaker 1A lifetime thriller is like, is that? A lifetime specialty Like Hallmark's got Christmas and Lifetime's got thrillers.
Speaker 2I think so. If I could have my ideal evening to myself, it would be like take out lifetime thriller.
Speaker 1I didn't know that about you and probably a friend with me. Okay.
Speaker 2So like that, leanne and I, every time we hang out, we're always looking for like a bad thriller. Because it's like just scary enough to get you on the edge of your seat, but like so bad that it's not that scary.
Speaker 1Yeah, it's like the perfect message Low-risk, high reward.
Speaker 2Yeah, last time I went to Disney with one of my good friends. We watched this Lifetime movie and we both fell asleep and to this day we're still like what happened at the end of that. Lifetime movie and we will never remember the name of it oh shoot. And if we look it up, there will be 15 others, just like it.
Speaker 1Oh yeah, like the plot, they're never original.
Speaker 2Anyways, back to Christmas. Yes, my favorite. I don't know, do you have one right off the top of your head?
Speaker 1No, I mean, I think, when I like, enjoyed. I feel like I think the movie that got me onto Hallmark Christmas isn't even a Hallmark, it's Netflix, but A Christmas Prince. Oh my gosh we watched that together. That whole series is just like His haircut. Yeah, there's one part where the haircut is. It gets me rolling it is so bad.
Speaker 2Like I paused it, We'll have to post a picture of a haircut and stared at it for so long I was with you. I know I was so mad.
Speaker 1It's cut like two inches above his ears, like.
Speaker 2I've never seen a haircut like that before.
Speaker 1So, I don't know, like I don't go back and watch that one, but I think I was like I thoroughly enjoyed it. One that I watched last year that, like, I think is like the worst one I've ever seen, but like, in the best way, this might be my favorite. It's the one with Brooke Shields I what's it called, I can't remember. Like it is.
Speaker 2I also loved Phil and the low hand one. See, I actually liked that one. That one was so good.
Speaker 1I loved that one. Remember the one, I don't know how to categorize why I liked affection for these movies, because they're all different. It's like Lindsay Lohan I like actually really liked that one.
Speaker 2The Brooke Shields one I like love to hate it yeah, well, that's why we have the rating system, yeah we need them come up with the rating system. We have it. It's in my phone.
Speaker 1Oh, we do.
Speaker 2Yeah, I don't remember making that it's like an emoji rating system. Oh, but we probably need to make it a little more in depth.
Speaker 1Yeah. To figure out our likability of a movie and why you like it.
Speaker 2But okay, remember the one that we watched where they're at the like they work at that ski lodge.
Speaker 1Yes, that what was it called?
Speaker 2I still don't know what it was called, but the chemistry between the two main characters. It was amazing, it was amazing Meredith, and I finished it and looked them up and were like, please tell me they're in love in real life, because that was so real.
Speaker 1What was gosh? It was called like it's not like the in for Christmas one, that's a different one, Falling in love.
Speaker 2Yeah, was it falling in love? But it's like falling in I and in, Was that it? No, I think that's the Lindsay Lohan one.
Speaker 1Anyway, she falls. Well, I'll have to figure it out, but that one was good. It was about like the guy owned a hotel or she owned a hotel.
Speaker 2I think he was the chef, wasn't he?
Speaker 1I don't know they all run together.
Speaker 2Wait, okay, the worst one. Oh, bless you.
Speaker 1Thank you.
Speaker 2The worst one that, like I, can't really even watch was the one that we watched with Ben and Hannah and they had like the magical geckos and the guy from Hunger.
Speaker 1Games. Oh, what is it he's? She's like on a special mission, it's like Operation Christmas.
Speaker 2Operation Christmas drop. Yes, that's what it was it might like. It makes me mad.
Speaker 1The whole time we were like the gecko Santa Claus.
Speaker 2And it's a plot hole. He never find anything out about the stupid magical gecko that like shines in the light.
Speaker 1Yeah, that one was just genuinely bad.
Discussing Hallmark and Netflix Movies
Speaker 2She okay. So the premise, I mean, if you haven't seen it, she's on a special mission, she's a badass bet. She like gets to this island and she meets this boy.
Speaker 1Who loves Christmas? Who loves?
Speaker 2Christmas and she hates Christmas. That's why she's spending it away from family because, she's got, she's a working. They really make, they like really emphasize that. And so he obviously loves Christmas. She obviously hates it. There's a horribly cringy dance scene.
Speaker 1Yeah, that's like supposed to be. She's like supposed to be a bad dancer, but like.
Speaker 2It doesn't translate well.
Speaker 1It's. The level that she takes it to is, like beyond what she was intending.
Speaker 2Yeah, yeah, it's bad. It's cringy on her own person. I think she's actually a bad dancer in real life.
Speaker 1No, I don't know it was. I just think she overcommitted to the role.
Speaker 2Okay, yeah, it was bad. It makes me very uncomfortable when I think about it.
Speaker 1But the end, wait, wait, what?
Speaker 2So the whole thing is that they're trying to drop Christmas presents to underprivileged children. Oh yeah, she meets some of the locals which like we don't know what kind of island this is, but, like you think, it's like a Pacific Island for a minute and then all of a sudden all the kids are like speaking Spanish.
Speaker 1Yes.
Speaker 2But then, like it flashes back to another scene and it's like a Pacific Island again.
Speaker 1For sure.
Speaker 2And so they're not clear about like where this island is or who these underserved people are.
Speaker 1Yeah, no, it doesn't matter, they're just.
Speaker 2They're just, they're like needy children.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2And she. There is a scene where she meets the children and she just starts like pulling everything out of her purse. All the shit and gum wrappers out of her purse To give to them and she's like here's my used hairbrush, here's a marker that doesn't have a lid anymore, and they're just like thanking her for her purse shit.
Speaker 1Yeah, and she just they did her a favor and it's supposed to make her seem like she's so generous. They cleaned out her purse.
Speaker 2They cleaned out her purse, but it's supposed to make her seem generous and she just looks really it's bad.
Speaker 1Yeah, it is bad. And my favorite part, which I'm going to we're spoiling this because we know how every like movie ends. Basically, this one's called operation Christmas drop. The whole thing is they're like dropping a bunch of toys to children, but the best part is that they do the drop and they drop the box of toys in the ocean.
Speaker 2And then make the children swim out.
Speaker 1You don't see the kids swim out to it, but you're like they didn't.
Speaker 2they're not even like near where the waves would brush it to shore and also like they're they spend days wrapping these fucking presents and then they just drop, drop them in the water, like and they were just with the kids.
Speaker 1They were just with the kids like two days ago.
Speaker 2Could they not have hand delivered? They could have hand delivered. Yes, it was the dumbest movie, but like somehow we're still thinking about it.
Speaker 1I forgot about it until just now.
Speaker 2But okay, so there's like requirements for watching a Hallmark movie with us. It's like you have to love to hate it.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2If you just hate it it's not fun, it's not fun. Like we've watched it with someone that like was just like partying on it and being a party pooper the whole time and we're all like shitting on it and laughing.
Speaker 1Yes.
Speaker 2And she was like shitting on it and like being annoyed that we were watching it. And I'm like no, that's not the point. Yeah, that's not the game, the game is that it sucks and we make fun of it yeah, and enjoy doing that, not hate doing that. Yeah, the same with the bachelor. So if you want to watch any of those things with us, you have to love talking shit.
Speaker 1Yes.
Speaker 2Yeah, we didn't you try to watch the bachelor with someone that like took it too seriously. And they were like mad at you because you talked through the whole thing, yeah.
Speaker 1I don't remember who that was, but yeah, I think it was like one of your very good friends. I honestly don't remember, but there's yeah, it's like a tight, but there's two different types of people. Yeah, it's like either you're in it which the people who take the bachelor seriously are not in the same caliber as people who take Hallmark movie seriously, but you worked with someone who took Hallmark movie seriously. Very seriously, she loved them, loved them, but like genuinely. Genuinely yes, and not like.
Speaker 2It wasn't like, oh gosh, I just love them. It's so unrealistic. But, like you know, it was like a true, genuine love which, honestly, I get nothing gets you in the holiday spirit. Yeah, like a Hallmark movie. Yeah, some fake ass snow.
Speaker 1I think my favorite thing about the Hallmark movie I was going to say is like is the sets? Yeah, because it's always in. Like the more suburban, like 20 minutes outside of Atlanta, the set, the better the better.
Speaker 2Like if you can tell that they are filming it in July in like a the video we saw the other day where they literally laid some white sheets on the grass and you could literally tell that it was a sheet and it was a movie set.
Speaker 1And there's another one we watched. I can't remember what it is but there was one we watched that like there was not a single tree skirt on any of the Christmas trees and there were Christmas trees in every single scene and not a single tree had a skirt on it.
Speaker 2Like who was the the?
Speaker 1inattention. Inattention, is that a word?
Speaker 2Is that is like lack of a lack of detail is my favorite part.
Speaker 1I love it so much.
Speaker 2I know, I know it's so good.
Speaker 1It's so like and like the more. Like giant carbos. They can fit into a set Yep, Like I just I love it. I love it and I always, am constantly wondering like do the people that work on these movies hate their jobs? Do they love them because they know how ridiculous it?
Speaker 2is Candice Cameron loves her job or do?
Speaker 1they love it because they think they're doing like good, good like creating something good. Like I just I would love to know. I mean, I'm assuming. For a lot of people it's just like work.
Speaker 2Yeah, yeah, like all the crew and stuff, they're just like taking a job and you probably just like do what's required, which is very little I mean not work wise they're working very hard but I just mean like design wise.
Speaker 1Then budget wise and budget wise. Yeah, it's low. Yeah.
Speaker 2And. But I'm like think about the actors we see Candice Cameron.
Speaker 1Who takes it so seriously, I've never seen her in anything.
Speaker 2I haven't either and I don't really want to because she is problematic. But she like won't work with Hallmark anymore because they work with the gays.
Speaker 1Oh really.
Speaker 2Yeah, she stopped. She like went to her own channel which was like what's her channel? It's like the American Christian.
Speaker 1She made a channel.
Speaker 2I don't know she just like solely works with this one channel now because Hallmark made LGBTQ plus focused movie.
Speaker 1Interesting, so is everyone else. She's been working in showbiz her whole life. How has she avoided this? I?
Speaker 2don't know, I don't know.
Speaker 1Wow.
Speaker 2But so she's one of the stars that we see. And then the girl from Mean Girls, gretchen Wieners.
Speaker 1Yes, she has a new one this year. They talked about it on the Macy's Day Parade.
Speaker 2Yeah, I really want to see it. She's a solid one.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2And then randomly the dude from Hunger Games.
Speaker 1Who was he?
Speaker 2I can't remember, but Ben was like very he was like one of the contestant, one of the hot guys in Hunger Games.
Speaker 1I know who Yep, yeah, he's not in them frequently.
Speaker 2And then there's Netflix Hallmark movies.
Speaker 1And then there's Hallmark. Hallmark movies See my theory is that Hallmark started out doing it wholeheartedly and then it took on its own thing, and then Netflix was like oh, people really like this yes, let's go, let's do it, and let's know that it's bad. Like I think Hallmark is very earnest, or at least started out very earnest, in their mission. Yeah.
Hallmark Christmas Movies and More
Speaker 2And I think Netflix has known all along that this is a moneymaker. How many movies do you think that there are Hallmark movies, like how many Hallmark Christmas movies? I don't know.
Speaker 1I feel like porn stars and Hallmark actresses are kind of the same in terms of how many movies they do. Yeah, that's true. That's true.
Speaker 2It's like. Also, I feel like I need to clarify that me saying the gaze was Candice. Cameron Was making fun of Candice Cameron, and not because I think that that's what should be said. How many Hallmark Christmas movies are there? Let's, let's do a little like ever dive.
Speaker 1Let me guess.
Speaker 2Oh, there are 42 new ones for 2023. 42. 42 new Hallmark movies just for this holiday season. Do you think they?
Speaker 1shoot them in like two weeks.
Speaker 2For sure, for sure.
Speaker 1I don't know, man, if I wasn't. That's, that's great money.
Speaker 2I know I mean because people love and it's quick. I mean, look at us, we're sitting here talking about it on a Tuesday night.
Speaker 1OK, what did you think by the Princess Switch? There's a lot of those two, vanessa, vanessa.
Speaker 2Hudgens, I think I watched the first one and had had enough. I don't think I watched the second one.
Speaker 1Maybe I tried to watch the second one with you. No, that's the whole premise of the whole thing.
Speaker 2She had a twin and all it went in and out of my brain. I don't even remember what it was about.
Speaker 1No, the first one was good. No, no, no. The.
Speaker 2Princess Switch is the one where she goes to the castle and the there's a girl, the little sister that she bonds with.
Speaker 1No, that's that you're thinking of Christmas, Prince yeah, damn it, that little sister man.
Speaker 2I know she's the best part of the whole movie.
Speaker 1Yeah, I love a Switch movie though.
Speaker 2I can't go wrong, can't go wrong?
Speaker 1OK, is it true that Freaky Friday is?
Speaker 2coming back, Coming back. I think so Because.
Speaker 1Jamie Lee Curtis posted about it.
Speaker 2Jamie Lee Curtis posted a picture with Lindsay Lowe right and was like right back baby yeah. Ok, but then Netflix I just saw today is I saw a preview they're putting out a movie called the Family Switch and it had Jennifer Garner in it.
Speaker 1I saw that too for a minute.
Speaker 2How is that like going to be good? It's going to be good, I don't know.
Speaker 1I like I like, saw it come on my homepage and thought is that Jennifer Garner? And then went to.
Speaker 2I know I said that like not super confidently, because I know it's her, I think it's her. I was like wait a minute but it's out now, right?
Speaker 1I think so. Netflix sponsored us.
Speaker 2I know Really promoting all of your new movies, but yeah, we know everything about them and exactly when they're coming out. But yeah, I'm excited for this year's holiday season.
Speaker 1I know.
Speaker 2There's so much to watch. I want to, really want to rewatch the Brooks Shields one.
Speaker 1OK, I've already. I've already, even before or even before Thanksgiving, watched the one I always call it always be my baby. But it's not that one, it's. The other is the cute one. Oh my gosh that one.
Speaker 2It's so good so that's not in the same category of movies is actually very good. That is such a good movie it's called. It's like the two movies mixed together. The one that everyone says is a Christmas movie, but it's not. What is that movie?
Speaker 1Die Hard, yeah, love hard. I just got that. The movie title is their favorite movies combined.
Speaker 2Yes, love actually in Die Hard.
Speaker 1I never got that. Yeah, now I'll remember it. Love hard.
Speaker 2And then the other one that I loved was the one with I want a hot dog real bad, what's that, what's her?
Speaker 1Jennifer Coolidge. Oh, I love that one as the crazy aunt or like the super art. I've already watched that one again too. That one was so good I can't remember the name.
Speaker 2Can't remember the name, but it was.
Speaker 1This is two gay guys. They're roommates and he goes home with his roommate. Don't spoil it.
Speaker 2If you guys haven't seen it, it is one that I will watch every year.
Speaker 1It's very sweet, jay was even like fully invested.
Speaker 2Jay invested in that one and love hard when they sing. Whenever they sing, maybe it's cold outside with consensual language. Jay and I were like this movie is so good, I know, anyway, anyway, well, we will be back with I think we should really do like a ranking.
Speaker 1Okay, yeah, well, come up with a ranking system, so send us some bad homework movies.
Speaker 2Christmas specifically.
Speaker 1Ones that you would like to like to have us discuss.
Speaker 2Yeah, and get our opinions on.
Speaker 1I'm very excited.
Speaker 2Also, okay, this one's not Christmas, but remember that Netflix movie with the girl from Nickelodeon when she like is trying to be a wine person and she like goes to the Australian place Wait Disney. No, she was a Nickelodeon star.
Speaker 1Okay.
Speaker 2She was previously.
Speaker 1Yes, this movie. I think about this often.
Speaker 2And like he's hiding the secret that he's rich.
Speaker 1Mm-hmm.
Speaker 2And then, like, the climax of the movie is her finding out that he's rich and she's pissed.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2And I'm like like Jay could tell me 30 years into our marriage.
Speaker 1Yes.
Speaker 2I say this all the time. Then I'm like Jay could tell me 30 years into our marriage hey, I'm sorry I haven't told you, but I'm a millionaire and I would be like, okay, great.
Speaker 1Yeah, this is amazing, I know.
Speaker 2I mean I'm kind of mad you didn't tell me before. But like I am, stoked.
Speaker 1This is the best news ever. This is the best news I've ever received. But yeah, and the movie. You would have thought that he told her that like he had like a scape from jail for murdering someone, yes, yes, like she's pissed, that he's rich, yeah, she's betrayed. I'm like yeah, it makes no sense.
Speaker 2It makes no sense.
Speaker 1And then she yeah, it comes around and they like live happily ever after on his vineyard. They always, do they always do yeah.
Speaker 2There's so much, it's like the trope of oh yeah.
Speaker 1I think that's why we keep coming back. You know what you're getting and the drama is never gonna be that dramatic, because then it would be too stressful yeah.
Speaker 2I'm stressed every time.
Speaker 1You are.
